Password Management with KeePass
PASSWORD HELL
In this web centric era, many of us run into the username/password hell. There are just too many username and password to remember. Sharing the same password is just not advisible. Losing one account will simply compromise all others.
How do I manage my huge list of username and passwords? There are many other free solution out there for password management but personally, I prefer KeePass. You might ask: “What’s so great about KeePass?”. Well, KeePass allow certain degree of automation. When I say automation, I meant automated login process. I am a lazy person, I simply love to do things the easy way.
LOGIN AUTOMATION
Automation in KeePass is achieved by a feature called “auto-type”. It is capable of producing keystrokes to simulate keyboard events. I can create and customize my own “auto-type” sequence. I can specify how many TAB keys, SPACEBAR before I decide to submit a form to the web site. However, the author of the software warn against those who are paranoid against keylogger (a stealth program that runs in the background, capturing all the keys that a user punched into his/her keyboard).
STRONG COMMITEE SUPPORT
KeePass has a pretty strong committee that contributes plug-ins to it. One of the prominent plug-in that I like is KeeForm. The author of KeeForm claims that it is keylogger safe as it makes use of built-in API of Internet Explorer. Downside to KeeForm is that you are pretty much tied down to Internet Explorer.
Bundled within KeeForm is yet another useful plug-in, KeeRun. What KeeRun does is that it will simulate the keys and send them to any Windows application. With KeeRun, you can basically instruct it to fire up TrueCrypt and perform auto-mount of encrypted virtual disks.
